Message from the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Enrique Sanabria

Dear Students,

I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to each of you as you embark on your journey into the History Honors Program, here at the University of New Mexico. As the Director of Undergraduate Studies, I am excited to see the passion and dedication you bring for the study of history.

The History Honors Program is a prestigious opportunity for you to delve deeper into your interests, conduct original research, harness your writing skills, and engage in scholarly dialogue under the guidance of our esteemed faculty members. This program is designed to challenge you intellectually, foster critical thinking skills, and cultivate a deeper understanding of historical events and their significance in shaping our world today.

Throughout your time in the History Honors Program, you will have the chance to explore a wide range of topics, from premodern civilizations to Global Cold War histories, from local histories to regional connections. Your participation in this program will not only enrich your academic experience but also prepare you for future endeavors in research, academia, and beyond.

I encourage you to take full advantage of the resources and support available to you within the program. Our faculty members are eager to mentor you and provide guidance as you navigate your research projects. Please schedule an appointment with our Honors Advisor, Dr. Shatam Ray (sray24@unm.edu) for further guidance and logistical support. Additionally, I encourage you to engage with your peers, as collaboration and exchange of ideas are fundamental to academic growth.

As you embark on this exciting journey, remember that the History Honors Program is not only about academic achievement but also about personal growth and intellectual curiosity. Embrace the challenges, ask questions, and explore new perspectives.

Once again, welcome to the History Honors Program. I look forward to seeing your contributions and witnessing your growth as scholars and historians.

Best regards,
