Transfer Students

Thinking of transferring to UNM History?

An undergraduate major in history provides students with a greatly enriched view of the world around them as well as numerous real-world skills that will prove useful in many professional occupations. The study of history helps us to understand who we are and where we have been. That knowledge, in turn, helps to shape our future choices and directions.

A degree in History is exceptional preparation for many professional careers including law, business, medicine, or any profession that requires reading primary and secondary sources, precedent, or extant studies in order to formulate an argument or a plan to benefit your team, client, patient, etc.

History students will develop skills to evaluate the sources, methods, motivations, and interpretations behind historical narratives; learn a variety of sound historical research practices; learn how to craft and present convincing and well-supported arguments; and recognize and appreciate the diversity of human experiences and how these change over time.
