Paul Hutton has been awarded the 2016 Gilberto Espinosa Prize for Best Article Published in the New Mexico Historical Review. His article, "'The Fearless Leader of a Desperate Band': Paddy Graydon in the Apache and Civil Wars," was selected by members of the Editorial Board.

Your biographical piece on Graydon is an outstanding work of historical research and writing. It brilliantly reconstructs the life and times of Graydon and the men who rode or served with him. The article adds a great deal of value to the Review's list on the history of the New Mexico and southwestern frontier in the Civil War and territorial eras.
