Each year the Women’s International Study Center (WISC) of Santa Fe, New Mexico hosts Fellows-in Residence to work intensively on projects in the arts, sciences, cultural preservation, business and philanthropy. Fellows give public presentations and receiv a stipend while they stay at beautiful residences on San Antonio, adjacent to the Acequia Madre House.  As a Fellow in Residence, Dr. Liz Hutchison will spend a month at WISC in Feburary, 2019 completing her current book manuscript, which draws on extensive archival and oral history research in Chile to demonstrate how household workers mobilized to achieve their labor rights in the twentieth century. “Workers Like All the Rest of Them” shows how Chilean household workers’ movements challenged the Church, labor movements, and the State to recognize their rights as workers, probing how gender, class, and ethnic inequality have been both perpetuated and transformed through domestic service over time.
