The Spring 2015 History Department Colloquium

Departmental News

Posted: Feb 24, 2015 - 12:00am

The UNM History Department Colloquium is the Department's primary venue for the discussion of works in progress. Each semester, several faculty members, advanced graduate students and outside scholars pre-circulate essays, articles or book chapters, and then meet to discuss that work in a friendly but critical environment. Unlike many similar workshops at other institutions, the UNM History Colloquium includes participants from a broad range of different periods and areas, allowing presenters to benefit from cross-field conversations as well as informed specialist critique. Giving our students the opportunity to discuss and defend their work in a public setting, allowing our faculty the chance to participate in high-level intellectual exchanges with colleagues from a range of backgrounds, and enriching the scholarly environment at UNM with fresh perspectives provided by outside guests, the Colloquium is an important part of the History Department community.
