The Center for the Southwest is pleased to present the annual C. Ruth and Calvin P. Horn Lecture in Western History and Culture on February 23, 2017.  This year's lecturer Dr. Ari Kelman is the Chancellor's Leadership Professor of History and the University of California, Davis.  His lecture For Liberty and Empire:  How the Civil War Bled Into the Indian Wars traces the complicated history of U.S. military interaction with American Indian people beginning with the hanging of 39 Dakota men after the Dakota War in 1862.  The lecture will be held in the SUB Lobo A&B from 6:00-8:00 pm with a reception and book singing to follow the lecture.
